Being Self-Employed: Managing Your Monetized Blog

Published by yeliveshere under Musings, WebPreneur Edit This

The excitement and joy that I experience when I learn some new little thing always amazes me! As I often tell my family and friends, “I crack me up!”

Today after using WordPress for several different blogs over 6 or more months, I uploaded my first image! For some reason I had convinced myself that uploading an image required I create a folder on my server specifically for ‘images’ and then upload images to that folder and then. . . well, I couldn’t quite fathom what would be the next step so I just passed on adding pix/images to my posts. . .

However, visiting other blogs [which I do frequently] and seeing photos, pix and even banner ads always generated a bit of angst within — why wasn’t the process simple so that I could add imagery that suited my mood or topic or even the day’s weather? Ok, so I didn’t mope about it and many times I posted to my WordPress blogs without even a thought of uploading, or in this case my failed ability to upload. Yet, more often than not, I remembered how limited my skills were in the image upload department!

Today while writing a piece about halloween costumes, I decided to try my hand at including a photo! I made sure the photo was on my hard drive, I checked it’s url and I proceeded to write my post. When I came to the point in my article that the picture was to accentuate, I looked timidly at the toolbar for image options. Clicking on the ‘image’ icon, I let out a giggle of delight: there was the familiar browser upload box asking me to browse my hard drive and attach the photo of my choice! I felt like I had struck gold! Here was something familiar, simple and almost one-step for me to do AND get the desired result within seconds!

So now, I’m a pro at adding images/photos, etc. to my WordPress posts! And thinking about it, maybe the first version of WordPress that I had DID require images be uploaded to the server along with other steps in order to insert into an article. . . It actually doesn’t matter anymore, as to why I felt so intimadated by the process: I can upload images from now on and look forward to stepping up and adding video, sound and whatever else suits me!

Oh, BTW, for those that are absolutely new to blogging and/or website management: sometimes it’s simpler to go ahead and tackle the challenge than it is to keep putting it off Wink! And no matter how much you read about doing something new, the best way to KNOW how to do it, is to DO it! Welcome to being self-employed via blogging — enjoy yourself as you learn all the ins & outs!
